Schmidt 9th, Boys Team Time Fastest in DHS History!

November 23, 2013 - NCS Championships - Hayward High School, Hayward - The Dublin Gaels Cross Country Team capped off their amazing season with another historic performance at the North Coast Section Championships.  The Girls Team ran to the second fastest team time in Dublin High School history and had many all-time performances - juniors Karina Gurusiddaiah (21:26 - #9 Junior) and Annalisa Watson (20:52 - #4 Junior) and sophomores Nicole Chen (20:46 - #8 Sophomore), Gabrielle Gamboa (19:24 - #6 All-Time & #3 Sophomore) and Lilian Kim (21:44 - #12 Sophomore).  The Boys Team stamped their way into the DHS record book, running the fastest team time in school history by nearly two minutes!  It is interesting to note that the previous record holding team of 2007 featured the likes of James Attarian (2007 CIF Division 3 State Champion) and Jeremy Grace (2007 CIF Division 3 State Medalist).  Not only that, but their 5th place finish was the highest place since 1999. They were lead by medalist junior Zachary Schmidt, who became the first boy Gael since Attarian and Grace to medal at NCS.  His 9th place finish in 15:52 is good for #5 AT and #3 Junior and was one spot away from qualifying for the CIF State Championships.  To round out the historic team were seniors Garret Garcia (16:30 - #13 AT & #6 Senior) and Ryland Lyons (16:15 - #8 AT & #3 Senior); junior David Yeshiwas (17:03 - #10 Junior); sophomores Anders Colwell (16:53 - #7 Sophomore) and Davis Zamboanga (16:34 - #14 AT & #2 Sophomore); and freshman Anirudh Surapaneni (16:58 - #2 Freshman).  NCS Dublin Results    Hayward High School All-Time List    NCS Complete Results    NCS Evaluation Form

**Varsity Boys Artichoke Champions!**

*Frosh Boys 2nd; 9 Medal*

October 5, 2013 - Artichoke Invitational - Half Moon Bay High School, Half Moon Bay - 1:00 PM - There is a theme brewing halfway through the cross country season - when the Dublin Gaels race, they come to win!  The Varsity Boys Team claimed their second invitational championship in a row, defeating a tough field over 40 high schools from California and Nevada and even a tougher course that featured hurdling over hay bales and Coach’s infamous hill with an “undefined slope”!  Junior Zachary Schmidt continues to lead this triumphant group, medaling in 4th with a time of 12:17 over the 2.33 mile course.  Joining him for the 2nd invite in a row on the medal stand was senior Ryland Lyons (20th - 13:10).  But team championships are won from the back scorers, and Dublin showed the toughest grit as 4 of the next 5 Gaels had to start nearly 10 meters behind the front 3 of every team, putting them in 100th place at the start!  Overcoming this enormous obstacle were senior Garrett Garcia (13:38) and a quartet of sophomores - Anders Colwell (13:26), Quinn Heinbaugh (13:34), Grant Lemen (13:37) and Davis Zamboanga (13:24).  They weren’t the only Gaels earning hardware - the Frosh Boys Team finished a close 2nd and featured 4 medalists - Rafael Gamboa (16th - 15:18), Matthew Koay (6th - 14:36), Jeremiah Salud (5th - 14:35) and Trent Wakaluk (20th - 15:26).  Other medal winners were senior Balkirat Sahota (Varsity “B” Boys - 14:19), junior Matthew Register (3rd Varsity “B” Boys - 13:42) and sophomore Gabrielle Gamboa (15th Varsity Girls - 15:41).  Artichoke Dublin Results    Artichoke Complete Results    Artichoke Post Race Evaluation
