Boys Remain 3rd, Surapaneni 3rd in Latest NCS Rankings

October 18, 2015 - NCS Rankings - Even after their strong performance at the Roughrider Invitational at Woodward Park, which saw the boys run a faster team time than their divisional rivals a week prior on the same course at the Clovis Invitational, the boys team remains ranked 3rd in NCSD2 by the CrossCountryExpress.  Similarly, the girls team were failed to be mentioned even though they defeated the 4th and 5th ranked teams in their division.  Junior Anirudh Surapaneni remains in the top 5 individual rankings as well.  NCS Rankings 10/18/15

Varsity Girls 2nd; Boys & Girls Combined Champions!; 12 Medalists

October 15 & 16, 2015 - Roughrider Invitational - Woodward Park, Fresno - Woodward park is a course filled with Cross Country history and lore.  Stars like Jordan Hasay and German Fernandez have raced on this course, so running the 5K course is like running with distance legends.  The course is also home to the CIF State Meet in November, so both Varsity teams were running with the hopes that this would be a practice run for a much larger race in just over a month.  The Frosh/Soph girls started things off right, with Reese Wix battling back from injury and finishing 5th over all.  Teammates Brittany Brunkhorst, Anna Verzosa (15:52), and Sakina Nuruddin cracked the top 25, earning themselves medals.  In the JV Girls race, everyone was elated to see Montana Nielson return from a lengthy injury to finish her first race all season.  In the Girls Varsity race, Gabrielle Gamboa, once again, led the team, running a personal 5k best of 19:22. Evelyn Morehead beat some big names to finish 13th over all and run a very fast 19:54.  Jessica Bouchard (21:13) and Keili Prenton (21:20) worked together to pace a large group of girls, and their effort paid off, as the team finished 2nd overall as a team and took home a trophy.  On the boys side, the Frosh/Soph boys were led by Saahil Shangle (12:11) who took 8th place and a medal. Freshman Ethan Nguyen finished well in 13:48 for the 2.2 mile course.  In the JV boys race, Max Ureta and Brandon Francisco took home medals, finishing 12:31 and 12:37 respectively.  In the Varsity Boys race, Adrian Schroeder  finished 2nd for the team and ran 16:38 for the 5K course. In a return to form, Quinn Heinbaugh finished 6th for the team.  And in a VERY competitive race to see who would be the 7th man on the team, Nathaniel Colunga, Hunter Lampi, and  Tiger Huang all finished within 1.5 SECONDS(!!!) of each other, with Nato claiming the win in 17:29.  With the boys winning third, and the girls winning second, the overall standings of both teams earned the team the "Sweepstakes" award.  This means that we were the best complete team of any Large School at the race.  Roughrider Individual Results    Roughrider Team Results    Darby Lampi Roughrider Photos

October 10, 2015 - Homecoming Scrimmage - Dublin High School, Dublin - In the first ever Homecoming Scrimmage, the entire team was split up and placed on teams.  Student-Athletes were allowed to pick their team name, their team colors, and even come up with a team cheer.  As the Homecoming Scrimmage grew closer, the rivalries intensified, and the race shaped up to be a real battle.  The 2.5 mile course covered the back of Dublin High School, and the cool morning air assured there would be some fast times.  The winner of the First Annual Homecoming Scrimmage, and the new Male course record holder was Anirudh Surapaneni, who ran 13:09. But despite his win for the race, he could not help his team win, as"Will Jackson Show Up" finished in second place as a team.  The winning Female Student-Athlete and current female course record holder was Gabrielle Gamboa, running a blistering 15:21.  Gabrielle's time and position helped propel her team to the top of the team competition, assuring that "Group -1" beat "Will Jackson Show Up?" by only 4 points! Other stand out performances come from team"Rustle My Jimmies" (Matthew Koay, Justin Symmank, Evelyn Morehead,Jacob Zhou, and Nicole Chen) which had the fastest team time of the competition.  Unfortunately Cross Country is all about the place you finish, so the team had to settle for third.  As the dust settled after the race, the team looked forward to a team picture, an obligatory singing of "Happy Birthday" to Matt Koay, and hopes of fun to come at the Homecoming Dance.  Homecoming Scrimmage Results

Acree FS Girls Winner, FS Boys Team 2nd

September 30, 2015 - DFAL Center Meet #1 - Hidden Valley Park, Martinez - As the kids left school, all thoughts were on the Hidden Valley park course, and the hill that most of the runners had already encountered during the Ed Sias Invitational.  The Frosh/Soph boys wanted to make a statement, and despite a overly aggressive start by two of the runners, the boys finished in 2nd place as a team.  Some strong performances came from Ethan Nguyen and Ryan Savellano, who both improved their two-mile times by over one whole minute.  The Frosh/Soph girls finished third, being led by an amazing run by Jasmine Acree, who won the whole race and ran 13:30 for the course, a time that was 52 seconds faster than her previous time on the course. Sophia Liu finished up the top 5 of the team, and she improved her time by over a minute for the two-mile course. In the JV girls, Melanie Rojas improved her course time by almost a minute and a half.  In the JV boys race, Anthony Casasos finished the two-mile course in 13:39 and improved his previous course time by 37 seconds. For the varsity girls, Keli Prenton stepped up and was the teams number 3 runner, running 20:48, and helping the girls finish 4th as a team. The Varsity boys were full of newer faces, since the boys that ran at Stanford were resting for this race.  Rafael Gamboa, Justin Symmank, and Brandon Francisco stepped up for the boys team, finishing 2nd -4th for the team and each running sub 18 minutes.  DFAL #1 Complete Results    DFAL #1 Dublin Results

Boys 3rd @ Stanford, Surapaneni Medals in 3rd

September 26, 2015 - Stanford Invitational - Stanford Golf Course, Stanford - The boys varsity team was on their own for the first time this season as they walked into the Stanford Invitational.  The storied race included a day full of races with the top college and high school teams in the country.  In a race that included some very large schools, and schools from as far away as Hawaii, the boys proved that the hype was not misplaced.  Leading the team, Anirudh Surapaneni ran a VERY impressive time over the 5K course of 15:36, placing him on the board as a contender in all of NCS, regardless of division.  Gaurav Phanse and Adrian Schroeder held it down in the number two and three spots for the team, running sub 16:20, and finishing within four seconds of each other. Anders Colwell finished strong to place 4th of the team and run 17:15.  Matt Koay, Tiger Huang, and Ulises Jimenez finished up the Stanford Invitational team  Stanford Results    Joy Colwell Stanford Photos

Varsity & JV Boys Team Champions; 21 Medalists

September 19, 2015 - Farmer Invitational - Hayward High School, Hayward - Farmers is a course of extremes.  Either it is pouring rain and squishy, or it is warm and rock hard.  The day began warm, and the weather was only going to get warmer.  Kyle Morrison helped lead the Freshman boys in the 2 mile race, running a sub 6:00 mile pace to finish in 11:38, a great time for a young Freshman.  The JV girls were ready for the 3 mile course, and to prove that the girls team had just as much depth as the boys team.  The JV girls took 2nd as a team and brought home 5 medals, led by a determined Jessie Bouchard, who finished the course in 21:32, a score that placed her top 5 on the team for the day.  Also running well was Sakina Nuriddin, running 7:38 pace for three miles and finishing in 22:54.  The JV boys proved the depth of the boys side by winning first place and bringing home 8 medals.  That means that we had 8 guys in the top 25.  It is hard for any other team to beat that, especially with Tiger Huang and Ulises Jimenez leading the group at 17:33 and 17:34 respectively. As the temperature rose, it was time for the varsity races.  The Varsity girls captured 3rd place, with Both Evelyn Morehead and Gabrielle Gamboa running under 20 minutes for the course and taking home medals. The boys proved their strength by winning the race, with 4 of the top 5 receiving medals.  Matthew Koay had another reliable day, running sub 17:00 for the course and earning himself a medal.  Overall, it was a long and hot day on the course, and even though Dublin took away a lot of hardware and glory, the team left knowing there was a lot to work on for the future.  Farmer Complete Results    Farmer Dublin Results

JV Boys Champions, Varsity Boys 2nd, Salazar Wins Debut

September 12, 2015 - Ed Sias Invitational - Hidden Valley Park, Martinez - In the first big race of the season, Dublin arrived at Hidden Valley Park ready to prove that they were becoming a Legacy team.  In only his second race ever, Freshman Ryan Savellano improved his two mile time by over two and a half minutes, running 15:12.  Showing how much depth the DHS boys team has, the Junior Varsity boys went to the line with a team goal of winning the whole thing.  The top 5 JV boys all got medals, finishing with a team score of 53.  Juniors Nato Colunga  and Justin Symmank finished up the top 5 for the JV boys, and their combined team score was enough to firmly secure the team win and bring home a Championship plaque.  In the next race, sophomore Robin Bajwa was able to improve his two-mile time by 29 seconds to finish in 12:18.  In the most shocking race of the day, senior  Adonis Salazar, in his first cross country appearance EVER, won his race in a time of 11:58, amazing both his teammates and delighting his coaches.    The Varsity boys team came up against a very tough Monte Vista team, and ended up with a hard fought second place.  Sophomore Gaurav Phanse had a great improvement over his 2014 time and improved by almost 2 minutes to finish in 10:53.  The varsity girls team was missing several of their top runners due to the ACT test, but the girls went to the line with high expectations.  Reese Wix was running her first varsity race ever, and was able to improve her two mile time to 15:42.  The Freshman girls finished up the day, and Freshman Brittany Brunckhorst was able to improve by over two minutes from her previous 2 mile time to run 15:32.  Ed Sias Dublin Results    Ed Sias Complete Results    Jacob Berg Ed Sias Photos    Darcy Lampi Ed Sias Photos
